I'm talking about fire, (like burning lignite) not magma.

Secondly, things in cages, if burnt, do die. I've once burnt down the whole surface when there were caged goblins out there.

It was like popcorn.

new mega project- roller coasters, i can just imagine making one go down a glass tube through the ocean to the circus and loops through caverns seeing how many kills you can rack up for each go
bonus points for elfs and sponges

i really hope dwarfs can ride them :x

Here's hoping for coke-powered locomotives that can be used to smash through siegers and disgorge militiadwarves like some kind of horrible, ungodly, goblin-trampling, ballista-turreted APC.

I'm for a small magma-bath as a disposal method.  Iron rails going through a flooded section, with a steel cart carrying elven crap to be incinerated, as the cart takes a brief submersion and cleansing.

As I said in another thread, I think it could be speculated that hauling stones without the use of some device will now be harder to do... as ToadyOne said on the devlog that he now has the change mining to a point where it will be much more efficient to use a Minecraft vs not using one. This could implicate that the speed of dwarfs will be reduced drastically when carrying rocks without the help of a device of some sort... as it stands right now you can easily mine without the aid of any device.
And then proceed to dump all the perfect little lumps of stone into the Dwarven Quantum Trashpile™.
As simple things like mining get looked at and improved, players will spend more time and effort optimizing their industries than building impractical megaprojects, I predict. Overall, good change.

Good prediction.
Right now megaprojects is the end of the game since your dwarfs have nothing else to do once you established your basic fortress needs.  With these changes, megaprojects will be truly grand and be a better sentiment of the height of excellence within the players fortress.

One item that I have been gripping about recently is the lack of end game content that is in dwarf fortress. I believe changes like this adds to the lack luster of end game content, and spices up the value of 'mega projects'.

DF is in ALPHA. it's still in development; so it doesn't matter if it has no endgame content yet.

I for one, will welcome our new minecart overlords.
