This program does not work on Mac OSX 10.4...
I'm guessing it is 10.5 compatible?

Actually, only 10.6 and 10.7. Unfortunately there are no plans at this time to go backwards from there.

Hi there.

I've done some searching and haven't found a solution yet.
I'm on 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and Sound Sense doesn't work.
In your FAQ you mention downloading a pre-release of JAVA but on the page it states that it only works with 10.7.3
I've tried copying a previous version of Sound Sense into the app and obviously stuffed it up because it stopped loading altogether.
Am I just going to have to suck up and deal with no sound fx?

Hum, I have an annoying little problem :/. DF crashes immediately the second I try to build a building. Not sure what data you need to help diagnose, or if it's something on my end. Here's the pastebin of the crashlog http://pastebin.com/MryViMW1 .

I'm running this all on lion by the way.

Edit: Interesting, It works as expected when I move the save to an install of macnewbie.

Edit2: hmm, when I run DF directly and cause the error I get
Code: [Select]
Resetting textures
2012-07-17 14:19:22.146 dwarfort.exe[1080:f03] Loading Maximizer into bundle: (null)
Resetting textures
src/g_src/ttf_manager.cpp:139: failed assertion `pixel_width >= ttf_width'
/Applications/Games/DwarfFortress.app/Contents/Resources/df: line 13:  1080 Abort trap: 6           ./dwarfort.exe
logout

[Process completed]

Edit 3: Ahh, got it. It's the Masterwork font that you include that's causing trouble, replacing it with dejavu sans fixes it.

Edit 4: I think http://ge.tt/5fapzdK/v/0?c is a suitable replacement, despite not being exactly the same and a bit smaller than the original masterwork font.

Edit SHUT UP ALREADY: huh, i've been unable to set custom professions and I get an intermittent freeze when using dwarf therapist. I've not been able to fix it so <_<

DT stopped working suddenly, after working fine for months. Tried rebuilding, tried older versions of Dwarf Builder, but now the chart always comes up blank, though it still has rows as if it's read the dorfs.

Anyone else had this problem? Since it's happening across all versions, I expect it's a OS issue...?

I think it's a Therapist OS issue. Try going File -> Clear User Settings, then quit and reopen therapist.

I get an error that says "You cannot use this version of the application DwarfBuilder with this version of Mac OS X."

I get the same error with Mac Newbie.

I'm using Mac OS X version 10.5.8, is it not compatible?

mac 10.8 is current, so be aware you are 3 major os revisions behind.
On a mac the dev tools are updated when the OS is. They usually include compatibility with the last couple of previous version as long as you don't use any new OS features. The current version of xcode for instance gives you 10.7 support built in, and will let you include 10.6 support with an extra download and a bit of additional work.

The author of dwarf builder does provide the source code for his program and it is pretty simple (I had a personal version that I had tweaked a bit) so if you take that it might compile for you on your machine with a few tweaks. The developer tools are free from apple. They added a ton of new features to the basic core language in 10.5, so be super glad you aren't still trying to run 10.4 which doesn't even support automatic memory management or I would tell you not to even bother.

This seems really useful, but the last post is nearly two months ago. Is it still being maintained?

This looks a fantastically useful utility, but I can't seem to get it to work.

The application itself loads and runs fine, and it creates the Dwarf Fortress app. But the Dwarf Fortress app itself doesn't work. The screen goes black for a split second, the desktop comes back, and nothing more happens, with the app registering as not responding. I've tried redownloading and also running it from both the desktop and the Applications folder, with the same result.

I'm using a 2012 Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion. Could it be an OS incompatibility? I see that almost all the discussion on this thread predates Mountain Lion's release.

I had the same problem with my install, I fixed it by switching the PRINT_MODE to STANDARD in the init.txt file in the dwarf fortress application folder. It would be nice to have a dropdown menu in DB to set this value :).
