Reclaiming occupied forts
« on: April 21, 2012, 01:57:44 am »

I abandoned my fort 54 dwarf fort because my entire outside region was burned down by a dragon, the remaining dwarves created a new civilization and continued to occupy the fort, now what will happen if I reclaim? Will they rejoin my expedition, attack me, or just hang out and ignore me?

If this has indeed happened, this is incredible !!SCIENCE!! in progress here. Do they appear in the civ tab? Name, leaders etc? We demand more!

That should be a new type of project, making a rug design in dwarf fortress (With accurate coloring)

In "The Cavernous Pick" entry in Legends (my original group): In the midspring of 263 The Cavernous Pick of the Torches of Trussing abandoned the settlement of Silverytreasures.
In "The Humid Furnace" entry in Legends (new group): In the midspring of 263 The Humid Furnace formed in Silverytreasures
My original seven (who all survived to abandoning) all settled in Silverytreasures in the midspring of 263
Unsure but it looks like all the surviving dwarves resettled, no recorded leaders in Legends.
Can't play as a dwarf from the civ in adventure mode. Not in Dwarf mode embark civ screen.
Only 1 dog joined, unsure if this means anything, all the other dogs may have been melted by the dragon

Upload a save?  Also, do you have a save from when the fortress is still active?  It might be interesting to go back and abandon it again, to see if it happens again.

No saves from while it was active, I've also messed around with some files for additional fun, which may be the cause, but unlikely.

I decided to check my legends.

Its normal, if you re-embark there gone. Guess they just hide there while they wait to be rescued, and when you arrived a second wagon takes them home.

What if I visit as an adventurer? Will they stay then?

No nearby civs, so I'm to lazy to test if not.

I'll begin an adventurer as close as possible and see if I can make it.

Last time I abandoned and then visited the fort, there were corpses strewn everywhere. There was acute tantrum problem though before abandoning. Previous to that one my fort was completely void of all living things, so can't say for sure.

So many wolves! It would be pretty great to be able to recruit my captain of the guard if he is still alive.

EDIT: Don't think I can make it unless I make a serious adventurer/powerlevel.

Which files and for which fun?  Some of us may wish to replicate this.  Setting up a fortress and then storming the gates as an adventure is something most of us didn't see happening for rather a long while.

Just a couple random creatures, nothing that should affect fortresses. (Unless they attack at least)
