Dwarf Fortress Talk #18: Feedback
« on: April 21, 2012, 04:49:40 am »

The eighteenth one has been posted.

Any comments about the format, content, quality, etc. of the call are welcome.

There will be a transcript at some point -- please be patient!  Everything has changed due to my last computer dying, so we'll have to iron out any new technical issues.  I'm also on new editing software.

Nice! Just a few comments-

W/r/t the effects of blindness: In this version some players are intentionally blinding all siege operators and woodcutters, since this prevents them from being interrupted by wild animals and hostiles until they are very close.

Great that resized screens are going to look better- this is a welcome improvement. Ditto for animal people fixes.

Why don't goblins need to eat if their prisoners do?

Yes, finally! This made me very happy.

It was a great episode as always. It was nice to hear of the new priorities and to catch up on how Scamps is doing. ThreeToe was awesome, too.

Thanks a lot! I hope we won't have to wait as long for the next DF Talk.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

Neat.

So, I've heard about personality rewrites in the FotF thread and such, but there isn't much on the dev pages about it. I guess there's a little about adventurer companion personalities (reckless, courageous, etc.)

But what exactly is the personality rewrite. Has Toady explained what it is before?

Listening!  My only complaint so far is the relative volume levels -- Rainseeker's voice sounds a lot quieter (although maybe that's an acoustic illusion from the audio fidelity differences or something).

Excellent! Hoping I don't have to be too patient for the transcript, I really prefer reading to listening as a general thing. But I may listen to this in audio and revisit it later when the transcript's out, I seem to be doing that with most of them lately.

EDIT: Okay, I listened to it pretty much right after making this post.

The topic seems to have been mostly about stuff that was already released and we already know, which I didn't find to be the most interesting. I know there's only so much future stuff to talk about but I'd still like to hear more of that compared to this sort of thing.

Agreed. when I have the volume high enough to hear him everyone else hurts my ears.  When everyone else is at a good volume he sounds like a buzzing fly in the background  that I can't understand.  This one is going to require some focus to get through.

I've heard from someone that apparently non human city priorities have been moved resulting in them coming earlier? Is that true? If that is true, then everything I wanted will be fixed :D(evil/good plans/shrubs and exotic animals being unable to be tamed were previous things that annoyed me)

I just hope I could have money to donate =(

Yeah, I wish I could hear all of them at the same mic quality and volume, but this somehow seems appropriate for DF :)

Toady said he plans to move it up. That doesn't mean it's going to be super soon, but it does mean sooner.
