It. Won't. DIE!
« on: April 21, 2012, 04:16:43 pm »

I have a giant grasshopper accursed thrall on my map. No matter what I am doing to it I can't kill it. I think every bone in its body is broken, but its still pushing. It chased a child who was trying to drink from the river (for god knows what reason, considering I have enough booze) and killed him. This is still the first year of my fort, so to kill it I sent out my expedition leader with an axe, and I assigned 10 war dogs to him. The grasshopper killed him, but the dogs are tearing at it. And nothing is happening. It is just slowly shoving my dogs to death. I tried sending more dwarfs with copper warhammers, but they have done about as much as the dogs. I recalled my military, but the dogs are still killing it. How do I kill it? And, failing that, can I call of my dogs? Because the last thing I need is another 10 thralls to be attacking my fort of 17 (now 15...)

Thralls can only be killed by bisecting their body, iirc.

So a really good axedwarf might be able to do it. Otherwise, run like hell.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Yeah, even if it can still move its to busy fighting the 10 war dogs who are probably going to also be thralls in a season. The reason I care is that its right in front of my enterance, so anyone trying to go outside cancels his job instantly. WHich also means if the war dogs become thralls the first thing they will do is run into my fort and murder everyone.

Don't think of it as being besieged by thralls/husks, think of it as having your own personal moat of life hating mutilated menaces

Now wall yourself in quickly

Set it on fire. It won't kill it, but at least you'll be slightly more amused.

A husk won't let you do that.

Set it on fire. It won't kill it, but at least you'll be slightly more amused less alive.

This seems more appropriate.

No rules when it comes to lopping off limbs, my friend.

Setting it on fire will veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly kill husks, but fire damage in general is borked in the current version.  As in, it will take years to kill it.

But if you can generally just wall it off completely after dumping some magma on it, it should eventually melt.

Alternately, obsidian-cast the sucker or set up some cave-ins.

Remember: When you absolutely, positively have to kill EVERY corporeal being in the fortress - cast the obsidian.  Accept no substitutes.
