I have successfully tamed several large mammals which were trapped in cages.  Now that they are tame, they are still trapped in the cage; how do I let them out?

Build the cage that they are in, then use the q menu to release them.

Okay, the animals are out and I'm ready to reload the traps, but the cages have seeds in them leftover from the food used to tame them, and the cages aren't empty.  How do I get the seeds out?

AFAIK, you don't    

Use those cages for a zoo.

Edit: once you have the bookkeeper, I believe (IF you can find the offending seeds) you can have them ordered to be chasmed.

That's awful.  I hope they fix that in the next version...  Those cages used precious wood!

I've read on the Wiki that if you send those cages to the Trade Depot, you could trade what is inside the cage(s) and thus save them back to working status.

I believe you can also find the individual piece of offending junk in the Stocks menu, and designate it for Chasming.
