Video recording software

I want to record part of something from Youtube for a gif... :X  Is there a way to record it as I watch it?  Or do I have to download the whole video from Youtube somehow?

my suggestion, download the youtube vid and then edit using an editor on your computer. i don't know of a way that will lock onto the youtube player and record parts of what it sees. it is probably easier to just get it all and edit out what you don't want to keep.
