How to remove dogs from a dwarf? I have a carpenter who has 4 war dogs, and now they have tens of puppies. lol

I'm pretty sure once you assign dogs to a dwarf, its impossible to unassign them. Kinda silly and annoying.

As for the puppies, when they grow up you can train them as wardogs, and they will stop following the parents. They will instead follow their trainer or whoever you assign them to. I like to set up restraints (silk or plant ropes) and tie them up around my fort, around dangerous areas to keep an eye out.

There is a bug however, that sometimes when you tie up an animal, it stops all breeding for that animal type. If this happens you have to untie all your animals, and it should make them procreate once again.

Couldn't you just slaughter them? Nothing tastes better than puppy pie.

Hey, think positively: that carpenter won't die soon!  ;)

Agreed, half my fortress eats puppy/kitten meat and wears their skin as armor  :)

I cage puppies/kittens/calves/foals on announcement. They provide more meat/bones when they mature.

Haha, maybe I will think about that when I get 20-30 war dogs.

Hi!

The one thing you shouldn't do is making them available for pets. Once they are that, it seems you can't slaughter them or otherwise get rid of them.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I got that dog crawling around my fortress that is half-dead and I can't even turn it into dog-biscuits. I suspect that it is because it is owned by a dwarf.

(Just kidding, though personally I am not the type to give my dwarves shamisen.)

if the owner of the animal dies you can butcher the animal.  just not while it's owned (or claimed a dwarf, if it's a cat).
