concerning camels
« on: May 25, 2008, 03:55:00 pm »

i am trying to make my game run a bit quicker, so i am cutting down on animals. i have made giant cave swallows extinct, by killing them all using dwarf companion. i tried to do this with one- and two- humped camels, but they keep spawning of the edge of the map. is there a way i can change their file to keep them from spawning?
also, i saw someone write something that said you could make them die as soon as they spawn. if this is true, what is the tag you change? and will these changes effect the camels the traders use? because i want them to still come without trouble.

edit: i forgot to ask another question. what is the tag that effects what goblins carry? i only want them to bring their iron, and forget the narrow camel crap.

You could remove the [POPULATION_NUMBER] and [CLUSTER_NUMBER] tags from the camels in the raw files.  That should work.

If you go to entity_default and remove all the clothing tags from the goblins they will be naked.

I don't think either of these will require a new world.

You could delete it, removing them from the game. Or remove the [BIOME:ANY_DESERT] from them, making them not spawn in the wild. Traders will still have them.

[HOMEOTHERM:1000]  Will make it burst into flames upon being spawned.
[HOMEOTHERM:20000] Will freeze it instead, preventing flameing bones.

Both effect trader camels.

Delete the tags:

Removing the camels will probably just make you end up with some other animal prowling around instead. Try to catch one of the camels in a pit (without using cage traps), and kill the rest; as long as the captured camel is alive and "free", no more wilderness creatures will be spawned.

Normally (in the 2d version anyway) animals would keep respawning forever as you killed them. However there is a bug (or maybe feature, I don't know for sure) that eventually they run out now.

So just keep using companion to kill them as they spawn, after a while you will run out of camels so you will get the more rare animals. Keep killing them and after a while everything will run out and you won't get anymore animals ever.
