Freaking vampires!
« on: May 11, 2012, 01:34:37 pm »

So the one that the gremlin let out is on a rampage.  Killed like 10 dwarves in a row.  I can't trap him because he goes break (feast on the living) -> clean self ->break

Put him in a military squad and station him where you want him.

You could try locking him in a room the next time he moves through an enclosed space and then collapse the roof on him.

Sigh, finally trapped after another victim.  Does one still get migrants as a Mountainhome?  I'm down quite a few dwarves now.

Next time you get him trapped in a room, wall up the opening to the room.  No one can release him from that.

Yeah, I started deconstructing levers to leave doors permanently closed.

I did find out that assigning a vampire to miiltary duty does not break it out of the break-feeding cycle, they'll still go "on break" and feed even if they're in an active squad.

I think I found my challenge fort.  1/3 children and 8 vampires so far.

Building destroyers can destroy doors.  So can tantruming Dwarves.  A wall is the only permanent solution.  For extra amusement, put your vampire inside a room with three stones.  Lock his door, then turn on his masonary skill and make him wall himself inside.  Then you can remove the door for other uses.

Whats this break feeding cycle? Is this a vampire bug?

Would this prevent me from having a vampiric army in my fort?

I wouldn't say it's a bug.  I've had vampires in a squad go "on break" to feed too.  You could isolate the vampires from the rest of the fort.

In case you didn't know, you can lock the doors manually (trapping the vampire dwarf) instead of needing to use levers.

Thieves and their ilk won't be able to unlock hammed doors.

I'm surprised that khearn's sig hasn't been mooted as the first solution:

putting it in the military isn't enough, you need to gie station orders. The reason he went on a rampage is probably because he hadn't been feeding for years and was quite thirsty
