Economy Question
« on: March 28, 2008, 12:14:00 pm »

This is my first time attempting the economy. It says on the wiki that you can run the economy with a locked vault of coins. If it to late for me to do this with the Baron and Tax Collector already here? I guess I can still do it and turn the economy off while doing so.

You can run the economy without any coins at all...  In fact, it is recommended that you do so, since the re-stacking of items has not yet been implemented, and you'll end up with hundreds of stacks of a single coin littering your fort.  Credit is just cleaner.

AFAIK you don't even need coins to start the economy in this version.  If you're clever, you can arrange for the destruction of your existing coinage.  I recommend dumping magma into your vault if you've got it.

It's always cool to make coins before you abandon so adventurers can find them later.

I never played around with economystuff yet.. Exactly how is a fort with economy run without coins? Do dwarves trade items instead? or do they just get imaginary values (like a bank-account without physical cash)?

Imaginary bank account.  They pretend they have money, and the bookkeeper sorts out the rest.

Yes, credit used to be nice like that.   But too many people abused said privilege, and so the invention of the CREDIT CARD came into being.

Hmmm,  I wonder if you could use computing (Logic Gates) to create some type of Dwarf-aged ATM.
