Dragonfire vs Magma-Safe materials
« on: May 11, 2012, 02:34:42 pm »

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Chert

Says Chert is a magmasafe material

But when my War Dragon fires on stuff traversing the chert bridge, it is destroyed!

This has its own use obviously, but it will have to be for special occasions.

What materials are immune to dragonfire??

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that dragonfire can set trees on fire.  As I recall, even magma cannot do that.

Dragonfire isn't magma.  Dragonfire makes less sense.    It has an absurd heat value, but can be blocked by a wooden buckler.

If anything, slade (unminable), raw adamantine, and dolomite, will be most immune to dragonfire of the stones. Adamantine is the only metal capable of exceeding dolomite, and nether-cap is the only wood capable.

i used to hear a lot about dragons burning themselves to death.  I think that's fixed now.  Maybe it had something to do with dragon fire being way hotter than regular fire.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

[SUPPER_IMMUNE] implies that dragonfire is indeed superfire, and can only be stopped by artifact portals constructed from Kryptonite crystals.

I thought that meant you couldn't cook them.  *teasing smile*

Couldn't resist.  I don't have anything of substance to add to this conversation.  Well, other than that dolomite isn't usually black.

Back in v.31.25 dragonfire was destroying dolomite bridges just fine. I don't have a dragon in v.34 yet, but I suppose it remains unchanged. Dragonfire was also able to destroy artefacts occasionally. Just like with bridges it seemed to be luck based, so the mechanics must be different to magma damage, which is very predictable.

Sounds more like they were immune to the lure of snacking late at night :P

I've been able to verify with arena testing that dragonfire is around 14000 U (2222 C or 4032 F) when it hits creatures, and will melt most magma-safe materials. It only raises ground/item-on-ground temperatures to around 10600 U. Presumably buildings get the full effect since it can destroy magma-safe bridges.

Dolomite will not melt at that temperature, so it should be dragonfire-safe.
