Bridge over channels ?
« on: August 08, 2007, 03:48:00 pm »

So I finally dug out a magma moat near the fortress entrance; and I wanted to place a retractable bridge accross it.

I read in the wiki that for channels filled with magma you can use rock; iron; or steel.
I tried all combinations of materials but I can't build the bridge over the channel; all the quares show up red !

I tried emptying the moat; filling it; I checked the wiki and it said something about muddied tiles preventing a channel from being bridged; but I tried placing a test channel someplace accross the chasm and I couldnt bridge that either...

What am I doing wrong ?

Did you only cover the channel titles? a bridge over a channel only works if you extend right across it. a 3 wide channel needs a 5 wide bridge min. to span it.

I can confirm that I tried to make a bridge that spanned an extra square on each side of the channel; the adjacent 'extra' squares come up green; but the area of the channel itself stays red.

Fill the channel with magma, then bridge over it while the magma is in there.

If the magma is in a channel, it can be bridged with any material. Even regular stone. Only the magma river itself needs to be bridged with steel.

The OP's problem is that he needs to fill the channel with water first. This eliminates the 'channel' tag on those squares, which will then allow him to bridge over the channel normally. This is a known bug.

What genuine said. You cannot build bridges over channels until water has been in them first. Fill it up, drain it, then build your bridges over the muddy channels.

Yes you can, I did just last night.

My channel was placed across a corridor where I wanted farms on both sides and the bridge placed over that after it was bug. The channel didn't get any water in it till the following spring and it was built by then so I'm pretty sure you can both place and build bridges over channels.

You can build bridges pretty much anywhere from what I can see...
