Siege Engines
« on: August 09, 2007, 10:43:00 am »

My latest fortress plan includes a siege welcoming commitee.

Just a few quick questions:

What is the range of siege weapons?

Will either type (catapult or ballista) fire through a Trade Depot or a raised bridge?

Will firing through multiple fortifications ruin accuracy?

Approximately what range will the operator get the heebie-jeebies and run from a threat?

range is infinite, as far as i can tell.  you can launch spare stones from your fort all the way off the map.

fortifications dont seem to do anything to accuracy (nor do intervening statues).  they just prevent melee units from reaching the archers.

you can fire through trade depots, but i dont know about raised bridges.

i think dwarfs start to spaz at about 5 paces.  10 should be more than safe.

1) Long.  A couple screens' worth.

2) Yes (and over other siege engines as well), dunno about the raised bridge.

3) Maybe, but accuracy isn't their strongest point to begin with.

4) Closer than that needed to stick him full of arrows.  So leave plenty of room anyway.
