Not me! Okay a real strange problems here. A masterwork of my legendary carpenter has been lost and someone has stolen his and two others coffers. Now I've checked everywhere as soon as that masterwork message came up and I see nothing. If a thief came and stole something I would of gotten a message for that too right?

Things that happened a few minutes before all this.
1)New immigrant miners drowns in outside river.
2)I start to build some cage traps.
3)I watched some recruits sparring in the barracks.
4)Calf in the middle of the river drowning.
5)A bunch of leather images made.

1.Maybe the canceled a health care job and kept the bucket with him?
2.Though I just started to make them but mechanic haven't even got to putting mechanisms in yet so I doubt someone took a cage.
3.All the beds in the barracks looks fine, just a little drenched in blood but that wouldn't cause a "masterwork lost" right?
4. It's late Spring so I have idea how this calf got in there since the ice went away ages ago. It's also not his pet.
5.Does the leather worker images makes them not masterworks?

There hasn't been anything else that could destroy one of the wood furniture like chasming or cave ins. No monsters or animal attacks for a while.
And then the whole missing coffers things comes in. The other two dwarfs with coffers missing haven't got pissed or anything.

This is driving me nuts here!

They could have been stolen because if you don't detect the thieves you never get the message, or at least I think you don't. I think the other stuff you mentioned wouldn't cause any problems with masterworks. In addition, are the coffers the masterpieces or not? The way you wrote it makes it seem that the artefact has been lost, and the coffers have been stolen (which I find unclear). If the coffers where his artefacts then it would give an artefact lost message so my original point would still stand, though if it is not one of the coffers (can you have wooden coffers?) make sure that nothing else is stolen because one of his artefacts could have been.

Also if his artefacts where in use make sure there have been no injuries or fight then a dwarf might have dropped it a river from losing an arm or something, but that is a long shot. I hope this helps you what happened I wish you the best of luck finding out what happened.

Nope, he didn't build the coffers and he got legendary by just making bed/bin/barrels/buckets so no artifact. I've had stuff stolen from a corpse of a dead peasant but when the raccoons left the map a message "raccoons stole something" came up so I know they tell you but I don't know if kolbold's tell you.

The carpenter is now dead after getting a hammering but I think I might know what the "artifact" is. Apparently his wife had a miscarriage. Thing is I didn't think anything was wrong with her when I checked since she was ecstatic the whole time. Even now after her husband died she is ecstatic swimming in her 15000gold. >_>

Of course this brings up the question of how she miscarriage and why she hasn't gone nuts too...  There weren't any monster attacks and she engraves so no sparring accidents. I'm starting to believe that the mason guildmaster did something to her during one of their "meetings".

Sorry I can't help more. At least it will be irrelevant soon with the new version coming out.  

Anyway once again best of luck to finding out of happened.

Did the calf drown because of a flood? If so, the flood may have washed the masterwork item into the river. That destroys the item.

Nah, it's the outside river. He is on a square in the middle of the river. I still think it's has something to do with the wife with her 15000gold, miscarriage or "meetings" with the mason guildmaster.

She has 15000gold while the next highest is around 2000gold. >_>
