wardogs in siege

I allocate wardogs to archers. I have a safe burrow for the civilians during the siege. My problem is that the wardogs go with the civilians and leave my archers alone in the fight. This logically seems strange. Is there anything I can do? Please advise.

Oddly enough, war dogs are civilians and react to civilian alerts just like any other civilian.
