Anyone play "pure" DF?
« on: June 04, 2012, 07:41:27 am »

I mean how the game is just from the Bay 12 download page. No mods, no tilesets, no therapist, no dfhack, no RAW editing, just pure, vanilla ASCII dwarf action.
I only play with a tileset usually, although I occasionally ASCII.

It was quite a while ago that I played "pure vanilla" ... but once kobolds started starving at worldgen I gave them some creature tokens as a workaround.

Then, before I knew it, I was assigning jobs through therapist, watching the fort in stonesense and listening to soundsense for music.

I've never used a tileset though. I like the ASCII art. In fact; I love it!

I play it pure.  I usually don't even bother messing with defaults in worldgen.

Do you consider changing the init files as impure?  Because I got sick of dogs dominating my coffins.

I don't use any sort of mods or tilesets or anything that fundamentally changes what I can do in gameplay.

I won't even consider playing the game without Dwarf Therapist, though.  That's just crazy talk.

I only use a tileset.

Never used Therapist or any of the other mods.

Briefly used Stonesense but didn't really see the point, given that you couldn't use it to issue commands.

I play purely, except I tend to change the default burial of pet and pause upon hitting damp stone.
Though if lately I've been too lazy to change either of these (I use British Petroleum to solve the dog issue).

I've tried Stonesense though I couldn't get it to work so I gave up. I don't mind the in-game menus for assigning jobs and nick naming all my dwarves though I spend hours on tasks I'm sure other players do in minutes.

I use my own custom tileset, and I mod crops to take realistic times to grow so farming isn't so insanely easy.

I mostly play pure until around 50 dwarfs, then Therapist comes on.

No tilesets or custom RAWs. I'll eventually use dfhack for digging out metal veins, but that's it.

I used to, but then I also used to give up after the third wave of migrants due to the insane amount of micro management and real life record-keeping required to get people to do what you want.
I consider dwarf therapist an absolute must! Don't use any other mods or tilesets though.

I have dfhack and Therapist on, but don't use them for most sessions. Where I'm disqualified is where I mod out animal men.

Because they are terrible.
