You gonna have to download it, but you don't have to wipe out anything you have, cause its save-compatible.

Sounds like you're going to have to whip out the old perpetual-motion engines: HFS-powered hamster wheels.

Well, to get all the awesome new things, like elf and dwarf sites and the new trees, you probably need a new world.  Actually, I wonder if Toady will break save compatability over the trees.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

Uh... You're talking about the upcoming release.  I think he's talking about updating to the current release.

Saves are usually compatible within a given minor version; e.g. you can transfer a 0.34.08 save to 0.34.11 and it should work.  There are sometimes glitches, though.  For instance, if you tried to take a 0.34.07 save into 0.34.11 you would need to mess around in the raw files to add wheelbarrows and minecarts (or just not be able to make them at all, which would be rather bad for stone stockpiles).

Sometimes new features require generating a new world.  Depends on the feature.

It's a safe bet that trying to transfer a save across versions (e.g. 0.31.x to 0.34.y) won't work.

True that. I also don't think that the next version will be save-compatible.

Sounds from the report that doing dwarf sites is going to be pretty hard though; so we're probably a ways out from the next release anyway. XD

Other monsters crowded around me, continually attacking.  I treated them politely, offering the edge of my razor-sharp sword; but the feast, I think, did not please them.

I would like to see an arm flying across the screen during loading in the next version.

Very disappointing update. Dwarves still cannot fly to the moon. I already gave up on tactical nukes.

Who else immediately wanted to build a megaproject upon seeing The Hobbit?

Sorry, only image I could find. That causeway was about wide enough for 3 wagons in the movie, just to give a sense of scale.

If that's wide enough for three wagons, then they must have needed mountain climbing gear on those stairs. :P

Oddly enough, they didn't show anyone on the stairs...
