How do YOU end your fortress?

So I was playing DF as per usual when I got bored and decided I was done with the fort, I decided to commit homicide/do some population control so I decided to make a magma reactor which failed and killed most everyone. So tell me, what do you do when you get bored with your fort?

I stop food production except for butchery and wait. Sober dwarves with nothing but cheap horse meat to fill thier bellies are very unhappy dwarves. I then draft them and sick them on whatever happens to be annoying me at the time, and wait for the tantrums of armed dwarves to do the rest.


Or if I'm feeling merciful, I simply delete the save.

Draft most of my fort, and dig deep.
If by some miracle they survive, they then are forced to live down there entirely unfortified.

Usually I throw a tantrum, rage quit and then delete the save so I can't even consider replay the thing.

I assemble my entire army into one large area for a final pitched battle, be it against Titans, goblins, moose pit or HFS, I usually keep at least one way of releasing a hostile army.

I abandon, I havent been corrupted by this forum enough to slaughter my dwarves needlessly yet. I like having legendary people migrate to my fort.

If you are going to abandon, then follow these easy steps first:

1. Conscript everyone who's not in the military into the military.
2. Force them to equip the best equipment in the fort.
3. Put them all on duty.
4. Abandon.
5. ? ? ?
6. Profit

I just abandon the fort, sometimes just  by not playing it any more, though technically all my forts survive in the cyberspace - because I store all my saves before the abandonment. My intention is to visit them later with an adventurer, although I've never played an adventurer mode and have to experience it yet. I had reclaimed forts, so before the last save I always make sure there are no Forgotten Beasts surviving, and that I have enough goblins and trolls in storage to help my new team. Also, I prepare vaults for a prospective adventurer to find, and hoard more interesting items. Still, reclaimed fortresses are so boring, that I don't play them for long and soon abandon/don't play them for good.

I see no fun in intentionally ruining it all. I liked ruining castles made of blocks when I was a kid, but don't find that entertaining any more.

I think I voted for the "option to retire the fort" on the eternal poll...letting it go automatic and then revisiting as an adventurer would be bloody awesome
