I was looking through string dump and I noticed that "REQUIRED" was listed as a possible response argument for ethic tokens. I had always thought that ACCEPTABLE was the most positive value. Is this new? has anybody experimented with this?

Ok, I generated a world with the Dwarves' ethics modded so that KILL_ENEMY is REQUIRED and it didn't crash the game or produce any errors, so it's at least supported at this point. Any ideas on testing if it's fully implemented; like if other races reactions to it REQUIRED on some of the more controversial ethics would be more extreme than if it were merely acceptable? All I can think of is to generate a crapload of worlds both ways and try to figure out whether the modded one has more wars; but I don't know enough about statistics to tell if a result is actually meaningful or if it's probably just a coincidence.

How about

[ETHIC:KILL_ENTITY_MEMBER:REQUIRED]?

That should yield results quickly.

The giant corpse my dwarves won't butcher for tons of meat says otherwise.

   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:UNTHINKABLE]
affect gameplay by allowing/disallowing butchering intelligent creatures
and
   [ETHIC:ASSAULT:PUNISH_SERIOUS]
   [ETHIC:VANDALISM:PUNISH_SERIOUS]
affect justice to a degree I believe

And cannibalism is hardcoded impossible, is it not? Cause my gobbo adventurers wont touch that human corpse.

Is still possible to eat sentients if your starving? Anyway, cannibalism is unthinkable in adventure mode regardless of ethics.

Ethics for eating sentients are supported in Fortress Mode. Adventurers are too snotty to eat sentient flesh, unless they're hungry or butchered the sentient when they were.

Indeed. Magmawiki has a list of known in-game effects of specific ethics values. There aren't many, but there there.
