Unfortunate habits in Adv. Mode
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:05:06 pm »

I am playing as an adamantine collosus adventurer with the [EDGE] flag on it's attacks. I am kicking ass, but I am having trouble. Every time I loot a crypt of camp, I will always grab as many gems and bone jewellery as possible. I HATE having to scroll so many pages down.

What are your habits?

I keep a pouch in my backpack for all my coins, making sure I don't have any coins in my pockets, backpack, or quiver (who the hell puts coins in their quiver!?). I pick up coins from dead bandits, companions, etc.

But I never buy anything!

I collect vampire jewelry.
This plus always having a weight 1 memento of memorable kills such as:
Minotaur Horn (previously a head, thank you mummies!)
A Mummy right hand index finger (once again, thank you mummies) for every mummy killed.
A Troglodyte hand (Previously a right lower arm. Not even repeated mummy re-animation could allow me to cleanly cut a finger for some reason)
A skull of any notable buthcerable animals I encounter like named giant cheetas or named rihnos.
The trunk of a vile crone.
The guts of a bandit commander/master.
A notable troll Tusk.
Any piece too large to carry many of, like a mutilated corpse, I look for a mummy to re-animate it so I can cut it down into more manageable pieces like fingers, hands or heads. Mummies are super useful!

In the case the adventurer is heading towards/scouting a future fort location I look for exotic animals, butcher them and bring their bones, teeth, hooves, ivory and hides and stockpile them in the nearest lair.

My most recent habit is not being able to decide what to use as my adamantine colossus's weapon.

I started off with a spear. (outsider)
Then I find a silver flail.
I got bored of that at started to use a <<troll fur rope>> to drive ribs through the bandits' lungs and hearts.
I then go back to the mace, but I start dual-weilding it with a mastercrafted <<copper shortsword>> (to deal with mummies).
I drop the sword (throw it at a bandit crossbowman {the only things that can harm addy}) and pick up an iron whip. Then I drop the sword and pick up an iron halberd.
I get bored of the whip and drop it. Now I'm just holding a halberd and a single cut topaz... I like to grab ALL the gems. All of them. They shiny. :D

I'm happy I got a fitting title. Alum Blueeyes the Aquamarine Judge.

The guts of a bandit commander/master.
So... what's with the intestines in your backpack?
Hm? Oh, those used to belong to the leader of a bandit gang I defeated last year. He was, like, the best axeman you ever met.
A bandit? As in a person? Those are some guy's guts?
Not just some guy. Like I said, he was a master axeman.
And... you have his guts?
Yeah. As a trophy. You know. From when I killed him.
They... I think they're rotting.

I craft my own jewelry with adv. mode crafting out of animals I kill.  I wear as much as a vampire.  I do use looted clothes/armor/weapons if they fit and are better than mine.  I loot everything in the lairs and use a night creatures lair to store my loot, not an empty one either, I leave a night creature child alive, and just don't sleep in the lair.  I don't kill children even if given as a quest I ignore it. (It also helps me find the lair easier!)

Maybe that the dwarves never died and everyone is just shunning them.

I'm not exactly a good modder.
The venom-spitting always fails.
I just copied over some random shit from other creatures and replaced most instances of bronze with slade.
If i were the dwarfiest modder i would make his left arm and leg out of adamantine, and give it a slash attack.
But i'm not good enough in modding to do that.

Back in 40d, I played Adventure mode a lot. One of my standard goals was to fill a few barrels with heads, which I went out and did.

That's pretty hard to do, considering in that era we couldn't target attacks.

...

Sometimes I settled for lower torsos instead.

I know how to make the arms slashy, but not addy rather that slade.

True.
I couldnt think of much more then a venom-spit and dragonfire tough, and the venom didnt even work.
And as i mainly use blunt attacks, slade is better.
