I just thought of reactions with a cross-bow. If we no longer -have- to reload immediately I'm going to be an old world Doc Holiday. Just carry several pre-loaded x-bows and drop them after each shot! I fully expect whenever a warlord says he'll kill me I'll mumble "You're a daisy if you do."

The closest I can get currently is firing at a thrown enemy for a bit of skeet shoot or firing into a wrestled enemy.

I hope we can yank grabbed foes (or adjacent companions) into the flight path of incomming arrows....

... I think you just gave me the best idea for a reaction in DF ever.

Catching crossbow bolts out of the air and then throwing them back from whence they came.

God damn I can't tell you how badly I want to be able to do this. Brain some of my adventurers will you, Mr. Hide-Behind-The-Door crossbowstard, hm?

I swear this is the last movie reference - what if we could fire an arrow into the path of another arrow flying toward us, splitting it in half, a la R.E.D or Robin Hood?

I don't think so.

Okay, so each creature has a size.
A binary size that has little correlation to real life.
A dwarf is not 3 feet tall, he is X big.

I imagine the best way to institute it would be the same as that but with speed.
Both for actions, and how quickly something comes at you.
A punch from a peasant will be thrown slower, and come at you slower, then a soldier.

What about talking someone into surrendering whilst they bleed to death? There would have to be a very fine system in place for this to work.
I'm not sure that would be a huge kink. I mean it makes sense that someone would surrender when they were near death and it makes sense that it may not be enough to save them.

Maybe you can get a medic skill in the future?
So if you nick someone in the neck you can make them surrender then apply first aid.
