trap setup
« on: December 29, 2007, 07:13:00 pm »

I'm not sure were to put a weapons trap. Do I place it on the path I want to defend or dig out a spot next to the path. And will I need a Pressure Plate to activate it?

Ex.

Just put in on the path you want it to attack on.
Put it in the hallway or something, and the will do the rest.

No pressure plates needed, only maintenance if it gets jammed during an attack.

Weapons trap are quite overpowered. I trained my mechanic until he built a *mechanism*, added a +copper spiked ball+ and the resulting trap has seriously injured a dragon and a bronze colossus... A double row such of traps surrounding your main entrance makes your fortress completely secure!!!

How do pressure plates work with respect to trap triggering?  Since a trap can't be on the same tile as a plate, how do you set them up to hit creatures?  IE: If I want a plate to cause a spear spike to pop up, or perhaps a trap door opening, if the monster is on the plate, they are not on a trap door, so if it opens, why would they walk into it?   Similarly, if a spear pops up infront of them, why would they step on it?

Depends entirely on what kind of trap you want to trigger. In the examples you mentioned, there's not much point to linking them to pressure plates.

However, plates are very useful for:

* trapping creatures(via removing bridges)
* drowning creatures(via floodgates)
* releasing the hounds(or other creatures/monsters)
