Animals to war animals
« on: July 13, 2012, 11:55:37 am »

Ever since train war/hunting animal at the kennel was removed I have been unable to locate where exactly to give the order for my animal trainers to turn my puppies into man eaters. I have them in a pasture and I designated it as an animal training zone as well, but nothing initiates.

I've search high and low in the game and now i come to the forums for assistance. Thanks in advance.

After you've set up a Zone for animal training, you go into the animals screen via (z). There, in addition to setting animals to butcher or adoptable, you can also set an animal to be trained, and which dwarf should do the training (you can set this to any).

I havn't found it in the animal trainer info, animal status info (z - animal) or on the activity zone - training, or on a few pages on hunting/war animals

Despite what the wiki says, I have always been able to wartrain animals as long as they were not caged. I thought training zones were for taming wild animals only.

it seems a bit strange (bugged?) you only need to have the zone somewhere and the activity takes place anywhere. Though I thought my war giant cheetas got to the zone first. It's just that they go voluntarily, not being hauled, possibly?

Yup, freed tame animals meet the trainer there for war/hunting training . As Garath said, once the training process starts, wild animals you train at any level will follow the trainer anywhere, and recieve extra training when needed

war/hunting animals never need more training, but tamed animals do in order to stay (relatively) tame

Will animales which are semi-wild/trained follow their trainer after being release from the cage or will they run around and start attacking people after they revert back to wild?

Is it possible to do something with the skeletons from decomposed corpses? I have set my orders to gather refuse from outside, but the butchers wont retrive the skeletons.

Normally, they get butchered for Bones and a skull. Make sure its nothing remotely sentient. Some Things you wouldnt consider being intelligent (Trolls, Ogres, elves) are actually butcherprotected. Or maybe the butcher is just busy, you have no butcher, the butcher sits in a burrow. If you want to be sure, look at the butchers shop if there is a "butcher an animal" job. If it is, then there is something butcherable.

also, if the animals were yours, they won't be touched. Tame animals need to be selected for butchering or they won't ever be butchered wether they die from old age or goblin
