Yup.

One of my hunters ran up to the edge of the a magma vent and started raining bolts down on a fireman.. So I would have to say yes.

This deserves a WOOOT!

On a related note, will creatures several Z-levels down still disrupt your dwarves?

confirmed kill - one potash maker somehow claiming it was his job to hussle dead corpses
i doubt it

but there were goblins off a 2 level cliff with 6 archer/crossbowmen goblins
the arrows came up, the potash maker died

no confirm if your dwarves can shoot DOWN yet

Bumping an old thread here, but I just want to confirm:  you can shoot up/down multiple z levels, right?  I have visions of my fortress having a wall 3 z-levels high with fortifications on the top, with catapults and ballista embedded in the mountain behind them (kind of like Minis Tirith at the end of The Return of the King).

On the wiki it says that seige weapons can't shoot through Z-levels. Is this true?

I too would like to know this - be a shame if the ballista towers I've spent the last few game years building went to waste, but not so bad as delaying the discovery until I need those defences.

I'm not sure. I built catapaults 3 levels up and had them firing towards goblins, but the catapault's range was between 10 and 15 tiles and the goblins were closer to 50 tiles away. Still, I have some good news. The projectiles you fire below the current z-level will not be destroyed, so you can keep reusing them.
