Stuck on building a working pump.
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:03:35 am »

I want to make a flowing pool, where water gets sucked out of the bottom and thrown back from the top. I know how pumps work, but how can I install a pump when the water will immediately flood my fortress as I dig out the tiles where the pump will be.
The guides on the wiki are really unclear for me and I really don't understand how to make it work. I'm using man-operated pumps as I have an extreme amount of dwarves.

Here is a picture of my concept, or at least what I want to happen.

well, some notes.

the water will be under pressure unless you make an outflow with a diagonal at the bottom. from this outflow you stack a couple of pumps that pump it back to the top. You're better off using machine power probably
