Changing object files
« on: December 30, 2007, 12:49:00 am »

I'm not sure if this belongs in modding, so sorry if it does.

If I change an object file, so that dwarven children take 2 years to mature instead of 12, must I start a new fortess?

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

Im not an expert, but in most discussions ive read, changing anything in the files like what you describe usually requires a new fort to have effect. So in short, yes (but don't quote me).

I'm not sure how it will handle this specific case, but most (if not all) changes to creatures are active immediately. On the other hand, stuff related to their civilizations and possibly biomes needs a new world generated.

If it's only a fuction (such as speed, or damage block, or size) it wont need a new world. If it's adding a new item/creature/bodypart/civilization/prettymuchaddinganynewobject it requires a new world.

In short, no, changing the growth time will not need a new world, but the children that are already past the age of dwarfhood, will most likely stay a child forever or instantly become an adult.

I modded this in the 2d version and it took effect immediately, and the children already over that age were children forever.

Apparently that age is the trigger that makes them adults, and it only checks if it is exactly equal to it.

It most likely hasn't changed since then.
