can you catch a fraud case for claiming a minority status?  what about affirmative action type stuff where you get bonus points or access to a special lottery?

but for the purposes of if you're being honest w/yourself i think its a cultural thing more than a racial trait.  do you celebrate or is that culture/status somehow a part of your life

Race is a social construct, and a recent shoddy one that doesn't even hold up to other social constructs like gender or ethnicity. It was invented to justify slavery and genocide in the Americas, and then became the favorite tool of all imperialism.

As for whether you are a member of any given "race", there are two ways to look at it. One is self-identification, which is as easy as it sounds: you get to choose for yourself. The other is how others look at you, and this is where racism comes into play. Depending on whether they view you and traits you inhibit as belonging to one "race" or another, they may treat you more or less favourably.

The clincher is that that too is a matter of identification, an arbitrary process. If you don't look the way people expect, racism might work contrary to its expected association with ethnicity. The William White example above would be a case of this. Also, because external identification is done by individuals, definitions of "races" may vary from person to person, group to group. I might be misremembering, but I believe the Oscars were praised by Americans a couple of years ago for including more persons of color among its nominees. The "issue" being that one of these nominees were an actor of no more complicated ethnicity than being from Spain. To said Americans, he was hispanic, and thus a person of color. To the actor himself, and many Spanish like him, he was clearly not.

So to answer your question, Magmacube, um, I have no idea. It ought to vary depending on who you ask, so maybe if you're very curious how other people view you a big survey could be of use. Or you could just go for the self-identification route and be satisfied with that.

I keep on seeing people say, time and again, that he bought it *on purpose* for use as a propaganda outlet, when a few years back during the fiasco everyone was pissing themselves with laughter as his attempt at what was pretty much a meme pump-and-dump accidentally caused him to buy it at above market value.

it was always the price he objected to, which in all fairness was obscene at the time of acquisition.

He talked himself into paying 1/3 his paper net worth at the time, easily 3x what it was actually worth.

He made the offer as what was probably a drug-induced joke. There wasn't really much thought beyond that.

The owners of twitter at the time looked at that wildly overpriced offer made by someone probably jacked up on special k and made him eat it for their drastic enrichment. There... wasn't really any long term plan, as near as anyone can tell, which isn't particularly surprising considering musk is not particularly good at those (or anything else except taking credit for other people's efforts, for that matter).

Musk just did a dumb and then tried to run the website into the ground (still in process, but it seems to be chugging along towards the dirt nice and steady like), the fact that it turned into an even more propaganda ridden cesspool in the process is more... accidental than anything. People ascribe a lot more competence and intentional action to rich people than rich folks actually warrant, bleh.
