Holy mother of science...

I... Don't know how to put this... I'm stunned for lack of words.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If you don't know what's going on, here's the importance.

Every month on the full moon, Asmel goes from this:

To this:

Asmel is a were-civet Dwarf.

That's not all.

Spoiler: This is her husband. (click to show/hide)

Well done Kivish Claspedarmors.

You've proved to me that no matter how much DF you ever play, it surprises you in new, tear jerking ways.

Thank you Adams brothers, for the greatest game in existence.

Is the baby a were-creature too? Let us know as soon as you find out! This is an amazing day for Dwarven Science history!

Edit: Love the nicknames you gave the Dwarves!

...the father... died TEN months before the baby was born?
Do Civets have a longer gestation period, or is W.C. not telling the whole story?

Also: Science the HECK out of that kid.

It could be that being a were-civet stopped her internal clock.
How long does were-festation last?
Under normal conditions pregnancy lasts for nine months, but if she turned at each full moon, each successive transformation delayed her clock for a full month.

Have her ride a minecart, or walk under a water shower, anything to seperate that kid from the mom. In under 28 days, baby is going to get torn apart by the mother.

I have no idea. I don't want to risk Asmel accidentally killing her child though, so I think I'm going to separate Kivish from Asmel during the Waxing moon. Anyone roughly know what calender date that happens in? My rough guess is around the 27th, so separating the two during the 25th-26th would be a good idea. My guess is the baby'll be a normal Dwarf, so I'll have to balance the time Asmel can see her son with the time she can't. And probably take her out of the military as well, can't have more ravens pecking out her lungs again. She has a science baby to look after now.

It is possible being a were-civet slowed that down. Or...
For a moment I did ponder if she had spored with one of the other two male were-civets while transformed... Or Deler Coalgold forbid the human were-civet...

So I consulted the late R. Grizzly himself just to be sure.

I think we learned a lot about Dwarf (were-civet) gestation periods today. 10 months minimum.

Have her ride a minecart, or walk under a water shower, anything to seperate that kid from the mom. In under 28 days, baby is going to get torn apart by the mother.

Already got the plan sorted. I can't remember who, so sorry I can't give credit, but during a thread where someone asked for good ways to dispose of babies someone came up with the gem to get the parent to stand over a bridge with her child, burrowed to somewhere else.
When she falls she drops the child, and since the child won't be in the burrow - she won't be able to accept the job to pick up her baby, meaning I will be able to guard Kivish while his mother is off being crazy.
Who says no good comes from !!SCIENCE!!?

How quickly do Dwarven babies grow up? :d

But then he'll starve to death. Oh, crap, saving that kid is going to be hard
The moment a baby comes into contact with their parent they're instantly nourished. As long as I can leave the amount of time Kivish is exposed without his mother to a minimum, he should be fine.

I really hope he's a were-creature. How long has the mother been one?

For as long as Ingish has been dead, so at least 10 months. She was the first Dwarf were-civet.

*EDIT
It started raining Dwarf blood the moment I unpaused. This is a beautiful moment.

Babys can move on their own. Thats what the "seeking infant" job after birth is for...they tend to wander around after being born.

There is not much more to say.

other than IMMORTALIZE HIM IN A SLADE STATUE.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Kivish us probably crawling. A bit premature, but not too bad compared to people moving sans limbs of any sort.

KIVISH IS WALKING AT THREE DAYS OLD WHAT IS GOING ON

What was she doing when he was born?

Mothers that are otherwise occupied when their babies are born can sometimes take a while to find them especially if they are carrying sometime heavy.

That or she was over a slight ledge or water source when he was born and can't reach him until he crawls out or until a route is created that he can climb out through.
