Amnesia: A Text Adventure
« on: July 26, 2012, 04:55:04 pm »

ALERT: THIS IS NOT BASED ON AMNESIA: DARK DESCENT.  I apologize if the title mislead you.  I spent a long time trying to come up with a title, and I realized that what I had could cause that connection, but it was the only decent title I was able to think of.
ALERT: THIS STORY CONTAINS FURIES.  Don't like furies?  Then leave without posting or this thread will haunt your "new replies to your posts" inbox forever.  Also, it's insulting.

Spoiler: "Game Info" (click to show/hide)

You awaken and rub your head.  It would appear that you spent last night drinking, and drinking heavily.  Why on earth you'd do that, with your low alcohol tolerance, you have no idea.  Nor do you remember why.

In fact, you can't remember much of anything at all prior to about 15 seconds ago: waking up and feeling like crap.

You take stock of your fine feathered self and appear to be in perfect health (excepting the headache and amnesia).  Four legs, two wings, lots of black and white feathers.  Your front claws can function as hands and you can walk on your hind legs only if needed (but you are much more comfortable on all four, or flying).

Looking around, you are in a large, circular chamber of smooth stone, laying on a low bed (not a particularly comfortable one either); a few more beds (empty) are nearby, forming a circle around the center.  In the center is a softly glowing crystal about a foot long, which illuminates the room.  There is an exit to the west.

You make a mental tally of things you need to do:

That's right your name is...
Name: Isaac Schmo
Name: Desten Elsio
...Neither of those.

You may have amnesia, but at least you know your own name; you're not stupid.  It's Avery of course.  A fine feathery name for a fine feathered avian.

-Orient self, try and think about anything before the Amnesia.

You are facing North, on the west side of the room.  Mostly, you're not quite laying perfectly strait on hard the bed.  You know this instinctively.

-Examine glowing crystal, see if anything is holding it in place.

You get up off the bed and look at the crystal.  It is floating ever so slightly off the ground, longways up.  You pick it up and examine it more closely.  Aside from being:
1) Blue
2) A foot long, 4 inches around (give or take)
3) Magical
4) Glowing
You determine nothing about it.

-Take the crystal, you never know when you may need a light.
-Leave through the west exit, your not going to get any answers by staying where you are!

Amnesiac furries, eh?

-Before you go, look around for anything you could wear. We'd never forget the shame of appearing to the public nude, would we?

You hold the crystal in one foreclaw.  If you're going to go adventuring, you're going to want a better way to carry this.

-Primp and preem your feathers. Who knows, you might meet a few female.... Whatever you are.

You in fact, a male gryphon.  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
And you do like to keep yourself looking nice for the ladies.  You spend a minute preening your feathers.
Handsome birdy!

Amnesiac furries, eh?

Your feathers cover everything quite decently already.
Still, you need something to carry your belongs--er, belonging--in.   Walking on three legs is awkward at best.  You walk back over to the bed you were laying on and take a look under it.  There is in fact a backpack under there, it appears custom tailored to a facultative bipedal stance, such as your own.

It's also not empty.

Inside you find a letter addressed to you (written in an unfamiliar hand (do you even remember what you own handwriting looks like?)), some waybread--enough to last a month--some flint and tinder, and a small amulet--the chain is far too short to fit around your neck, you wonder why you even have it.

You do so.  You are no longer hungry and your headache is receding.
You put the amulet around your right forearm.  It's loose but it does fit.

-Read the letter
-Place the light in the backpack and then wear the backpack.

You place the letter to the side for a moment while you put the crystal into your bag.  The room dims slightly, but there is a small amount of ambient light still available, you cannot tell where it is coming from--probably magic.  Then you put the pack on, it fits securely.

You open the letter and read,

Quote from: The Letter
Avery,
You may have trouble remembering the last few hours.  We will be at the temple if we are unable to meet you for some reason.

--Veshka
P.S.  Be a good example for Srain

Head out the left exit relative to where you are, its always the left exit, failing that, go strait ahead, failing that, go through the one behind you. WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T GO THROUGH THE RIGHT ONE

There is only one exit to the room, to the west.  What are you talking about?
Fortunately you are facing north.

You hear a rustle.

-Ponder who Srain is.
-Turn around and discover what rustled.
