-Ponder who Srain is.

You have no idea.

Also, something rustled?
-Go out the exit, try to recall where the hell you are.

Too late!
(Also, you have no idea where the hell you are.  Still)

-Turn around and discover what rustled.

Before you have a chance, it discovers you.  From behind the bed opposite yours (or at least, opposite the one you woke up on) up pops a gryph-chick.  Who yawns, shakes its wings, and then chirps at you.

-"Good Morning, Avery!"

At least, that's what you attempt to say.
All that comes out is a "chirp!"
You do not understand language yet.

-Where's this bloody thing's mum?

You (Avery) do not know.

You (Gryphchick) do not know where mom is, but you did find daddy!

GRYPHCHICK: Walk a few tentative steps towards Avery

You do so, then take a few more.  In fact, you're quite confident.
Gryphchick pounces Avery and chirps happily, informing him that she is hungry.

Baby furries, eh?

-Welp, looks like I'm stuck with it. Go outside to look for somewhere you can get something to feed the little rascal.

That you are.  And you do have waybread.  But outside is looking inviting; nothing left in here.

Then feed it waybread, bird-brain!

Then feed it waybread, bird-brain!

You offer the chick some waybread and it happily gobbles it down.  Content it hops up on your back and curls up between your wings, just behind your pack.
That settled you head towards the only door.

It is a good eight feet tall and made of heavy wood.  It is not barred and opens easily to your touch.

On the other side is a short hallway that grows progressively less "smoothed worked stone" towards "rough natural cave."  You ponder this, but it holds no clues as to why you are here, who you are, or anything else.  Soon the cave ends in overgrowth, sun streaming in.  You push past the obstacle and find yourself on a high mountainside.

There is but a single path leading downwards.  Off in the distance to the east you can see a forest, a road cuts through the western edge near the mountain, running between two towns, the nearest is to the north east.

Avery: Head towards the towns.

Which one?  One is north-east, the other south-south-east.
