-Yell to the travelers (Hopefully they understand)
descend menacingly upon the travellers until you're flying in circles within shouting distance of them. with a booming, authoritative voice, inquire about the temple

You see no harm in greeting these people, though you're not sure that intimidating them is the best idea: best case they run away into the forest where you wouldn't be able to find them.

You let the wind out from under your wings, losing altitude you spiral in towards the small party.  As you get closer you can make out the figures more clearly.  They're both human, and they're accompanying a small wagon pulled by a donkey.  The one is burly, clearly providing guard/escort services.  He seems apprehensive about you and has a crossbow ready.  The other man is keeping the first from firing it anywhere in your direction and is clearly excited about your appearance.

You aren't close enough for conversation, but you pick up some of the words the smaller man is shouting.  "Omen" and "1000 years."

As you cannot hover, you will have to land or fly in circles around them to talk.

GRYPHCICK: Pop out and look cute for the nice men

You circle around and land on the road before the two men, before you have a chance to say anything, the smaller man is shouting excitedly, "A gryphon!  No one has seen a gryphon in a thousand years!  And one just lands in front of me!  This is exciting!"

The guard still isn't sure about this whole thing.  You get the sense that the only thing he's heard about gryphons is probably one of those tales to keep children in bed at night.

The gryphchick is more than eager to hop down and meet new people, and xe squirms in your talons, trying to get down.  Naive and curious, the little thing is.

-Snicker at the small man, scoffing at his statement. "I can't possibly have been there for a thousand years."

-Snicker at the small man, scoffing at his statement. "I can't possibly have been there for a thousand years."

You do so.  "I can't possibly have been..." You pause for a second looking for the right word, "Asleep," you decide, "for a thousand years."
Though you doubt the accuracy of this statement, it's not like you even remember what the date was when you...er, 'went to sleep.'

The hatchling wriggles from your grasp and bounds over to the man chirping excitedly.  The guard, startled, raises his crossbow again.

-Advise guard not to move, or otherwise his guts will be splayed out on the wall in an interesting fashion. Also, ask them to move aside for the great Gryphon King.

Your hackles rise and you utter, "Lower your weapon, the hatchling is no threat to you.  Harm it and you'll discover interesting things you didn't want to know about your insides."

The guard pales and the smaller man tells him to go wait "over there a while" away from you and the hatchling.  He then turns back to you and apologizes.  "Do forgive him, most people these days are not accustomed to 'monsters' showing up unannounced after a thousand years of absence.  I'm somewhat of a scholar, so I'm more educated than most folks and know you for what you are."  He bends down to pet the gryphchick.  "How old is she?"

And as you can see, I made myself a banner.  Took me two and a half hours x..X

gryphchick: Find the wagon interesting so explore what can possibly be in it.

Avery: say that you don't know, especially considering he just said you had been gone a thousand years and ask where they are headed.

As the traveler stands back up, she? darts off, curious about the wagon.
You still aren't sure about her? gender, but this traveler seems to think that she?'s female.  You still don't remember enough to know how to tell--apart from the obvious.

"Honestly I have no idea.  Relative time, I'd say no more than a day...Absolute time?  Probably a thousand years, give or take.  Might I ask where you are headed?"

"She's quite well developed for a newhatched gryphon."  He looks around for her?, not sure where she? went.  "I myself am headed south to Valeforge."  You have no idea where that is, and assume it was the city you saw to the south-east of the cave you awoke in.  He continues, "There's been evidence of magic leaking back into the world and...ah nevermind, you probably aren't interested in my studies and theories."

Intrigued by the knowledge this man seems to have Avery should: Ask the man to continue, perhaps the leaking of magic can have something to do with your memory loss and your so called 1000 year sleep.
Avery should also ask the man to have a look at the magic crystal he found earlier.

ask him if there is a temple in one of the nearby villages. if he inquires, just say something to try and make him drop it. preferably without intimidating him.

You make a quick inquiry about temples.

"Yes, every town has one--or two, or more, depending on which religions are practiced.  Are you looking for one in particular?"

You tell him that yes, you are looking for a particular temple but that you don't know which one it would be.

He doesn't know how to direct you and suggests you just follow him to Valeforge.  It's only got two temples, so it'd be easy to find out if either one of them are the one you are looking for and in the mean time he can answer your other questions.

You inform him that you are in fact quite interested in his research, but before he can answer a thick fog starts billowing out of his wagon, pouring out of the cracks and expanding rapidly, and in moments you can only see a few feet in either direction, the scholar, but the wagon is a mere shadow, and anything beyond that is obscured completely.

if we have any, use powers to dispel the fog.

You don't have any.  At least not any you remember.  You presume that there is a difference.

fly high, if we don't, and use that to see if we are under attack.

Considering that the fog billowed out from inside the wagon, you have your doubts as to that.  Besides, it's right there, not that far away.  Hard to see, yes, but not hard to locate.  Unlike the guard, who is farther away (and shouting something, but the fog has muffled his voice).

No, there is something much simpler at work here.

Quote
but before either of those, ask the guy if he knows what is causing this fog.

"Not off-hand, no.  I do have a few magical trinkets, and some books of spells.  None of them can do this though.  But I admit I don't know the full extent of their potential; I've only had some of them for a few days, and well, magic hadn't even been working at all (I suppose that's the way to put it) until only a few months ago.  Your hatchling has probably found something to play with--given that there aren't many places to hide at the moment (not counting the fog)--and somehow activated something.  I'm curious as to know what.  And how!"

Since it seems that the fog poses no danger Avery should try to find the chick, and perhaps try to see if he can find the source of the fog in the wagon. Perhaps try using the crystal as light to see through the fog.

Chick should try to find her parent as that would be the safest place for her during such an unknown event.

(The crystal would be of no use: the area is still bright it's just obscured).

"Lets see if it is her then, and what she's found.  (Are you sure it's a she?)" you say.

"I'm interested as well.  And quite sure.  Can you not tell?"

"Honestly, no.  The amnesia, you know..." you trail off as the two of you approach the wagon.  Fog continues to pour from the openings between the wooden sides, as well as through the open door.  Inside the fog is less dense, though forming rapidly before flowing out and into the road (the donkey pulling the cart seems to have not noticed or simply doesn't care).  The hatchling is there in the middle of the floor playing with a small object, a medallion or amulet, the silver chain snaking across the wooden floorboards.

Why?  This is fun!  You poke it, it sends a tingle through your body, and out pours a nice fog!  Who wouldn't do this all day!?
