Suddenly asked to be an Admin/Staff Member in RP Forum, indecisive as fuck.

Holy fuck I wasn't prepared for this.

After a discussion on an RP Forum about what items could be used for on the Cbox, one of the members of staff just randomly asked If I'd like to be one of the members of Staff out of the blue. I don't know whether to be honored, or absolutely shitting bricks over this. I've been sort of active on there for two-three years, mainly sometimes blipping out of existance for a week or so, and now I'm suddenly asked to become one of pieces of the backbone of the place. I've been an admin once, but I abused my power during my stay there, and that scares me because I'm worried I might do it again, and they already had someone like that abuse their power so bad they had to make a new RP Forum just to get away from him. I feel like King Arthur in The Sword in the Stone, when he suddenly becomes king over getting a sword out of a rock; I don't know what to do.  :-[

Admin: The only thing I'm a bit shaky on is the consistency of your attendance.
Me: There's just only one problem...Well, other than my waivering activeness on here, but other than that: I've never been a staff member/admin before.
Admin: Woah, steady on.
Admin: Come on, I didn't start out as an Admin here, and I certainly wasn't promoted straight there.
Me:  There was only one time on a Space Station 13 server, but that was from a server host that was desperate for someone, and his server only lasted for a week. Also, I sort of abused my power during that time. :/
Admin: You wouldn't start off as a powerful staff. You would simply have more responsibilities than you have now.
Admin: For one thing, you could post NPCs in other peoples' topics, if you chose. And, as Staff (and a long-term member), your input would be valued at the few meetings we can scrounge together.
Me: What would be my duties as a member of staff?
Admin: Depends. You'd have a say in the higher board politics, that's a given. But we have people shouting for activity. While we've hit an equlibrium where members are helping each other, the groundswell of required GMs intensifies every now and then. You could help out there if you wished. So long as you were fair, nonpartisan, and didn't abuse your rein over NPCs.
Me: I see...
Admin: I wouldn't up and give you overwhelming power. Hell, if that happened to me, I know I'd have gone bonkers and banned everyone I didn't like.
Me: Well...huh.
Admin: So if you can get here at a reasonable rate and keep up a consistent amount of activity, you can have a shot at having a red or blue Emerald next to your name, and all the legal power that comes with either of those. Think about it for a day or two.
Me: Oh...kay.

That's my advice as well.

I for one try to avoid any major responsibilities as possible.
Not because I might abuse whatever power I may be granted, but because I am very lazy.

the fact that you recognise the possibility of abusing power and that disgusts you instead of thrilling you makes you perfect for the job. while you're there, remember to listen to your underlings' input, you might lose perspective. but don't be too submissive or you might become a tool of mob rule
