Dwarf Fortress > DF Suggestions

Procedurally generated image of each Dwarf's face.

Owlbread:
This is something that could be added in the very far future when frivolities such as this could actually be considered.

You may have noticed that the appearances of Dwarfs are basically constructed using set characteristics like lego pieces e.g. "his nose is very broad". I suggest that Toady should add a procedurally generated portrait of every Dwarf to their personality screens, allowing us to actually see what our dwarfs may look like. For every variable there is a tiny image e.g. widely-set eyes, very thin lips etc. When the portrait is produced, all these little images come together like a jigsaw and create a unique ASCII portrait of the Dwarf you are looking at. It doesn't have to be a Mona Lisa, it could be very rudimentary, that doesn't matter.

You may call me mad, crazy, but it is not far fetched. We are going to see fully generated "ASCII Art" images of animal tracks, so I don't see why this is impossible.

Some may prefer the ugly mugs of Dwarfs to be left to our imaginations, but I thought it would make things a bit more personal.

I'm just wondering where all of the variables for facial features are kept. Even if this wasn't implemented in the game itself, I think that making a 'Dwarfmaker' flash game would be hilarious. There are tonnes of dollmakers kicking around that are often pink, purple and sparkly that require you to pick eyes, hair, lipstick, etc. I'd love to throw together something more Dwarf-y!

Funk:
i think there was an old dwarf maker thing a year or so back

JasonMel:
This is very doable using extant algorithms for converting graphics to text, which would even allow the text-rendered face to adapt to terminal dimensions, showing more detail on a larger terminal.

But there is a good deal of in-game state information that, if real rather than simulated, would be reflected on the face: Happiness level, cuts, bruises, broken features, missing features, and coatings, to start with. The feature would go mostly unused by me after the novelty wore off unless the face reflected these states.

GreatWyrmGold:
...Meh. Seems like a lot of work, unless we want to screw up mods. Also, seeing as DF is an ASCII-style game, it would probably screw up the aesthetic.
