Well, according to certain groups, gravity doesn't exist, and instead Gods pushes people down. If we just give the pointy hats, like rockets, they'll float up on their own.

Besides, Catapults are outdated. Trebuchets are much more fun. Can shoot a lot at once.
We could attach magnets to their sides and shoot them from a rail cannon...
Only if we can do the same thing to Insane Clown Posse.

Fucking magnets, how do they WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo......

But then they can't become the Insane Clown Presidents.

Wait. That's a good thing.

Screw the magnets. Just bolt them down to the cradle.

We'll then induce our own damn magnetic field with supercapacitors and fire them with a speed of Mach 10! ‼FOR SCIENCE‼

They would then become the Insane Clown Fireballs as they roast their way through the atmosphere. Thanks, air resistance!

In Soviet Union, people dreamed that the achievements of technological progress would make apple trees grow on Mars.
On Bay 12, Americans dream that the achievements of technological progress will be used to send unwanted people (such as bad musicians, or Christians) on a one-way trip to the absolute vacuum.

It's a very interesting example of the differences between the socialist society of the past and the Bay 12 society of today.

So what if we discover hard evidence of life? Think NASA will get a fund boost?
If you want to get the fundie Christians onboard, just tell them that out there in the universe lie billions of aliens who haven't yet had the chance to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. KA-CHING!
This is the best plan ever.
Step 1. Convince them (duh)
Step 2. Mandatory giving of 10% of pre-tax income to doing God's work (NASA).
Suddenly, NASA has a budget equal to over 50% of the US budget, a 100-fold increase!
Step 3. Build these: http://www.buildtheenterprise.org/cost-mass

Look on bright side. At least most of the crazies here know what an apple tree is. You can't actually say that for the whole of the actual youth of the world. Apples come from factories or something for some of them :-\

Apple factories on mars, I guess? Staffed by legal aliens?

When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

An image of the pieces of the lander. The sky crane had a rather large impression.

Well, I assume it was actively propelling itself and loaded with rocket fuel at the time. I'm guessing it made a bit of a blast.

Scale for that image? I want to know just how far everything flew.

EDIT: Found it.
Quote
The photo, taken by the Mars Reconnoissance Orbiter, shows the view from 185 miles up. The distance between Curiosity in the photo and the sky crane is about 650 meters, the parachute is about 615 meters away, and the heat shield is a full 1,200 meters away. The dark areas are where dust was disturbed during the landing.
