Wait really?  $100?

He is referring to the reward tier for $100 where you get extra content. I understand the argument but feel, personally, that logic is flawed. I don't care for the DLC strategy but I also don't have a vendetta against publishers that employ it. I either purchase appealing extra content or I don't, but I avoid making sweeping declarations that could make me look silly when I reverse my opinion later. I do enough of that already.

Never been fond of DLC either, except cases where it could be marketed as an expansion pack.  Magicka did it poorly, you can pay 20x as much in DLC as you could for the game!  Supreme Commander 2 (for as terrible as the game is) did DLC right, because it adds enough that it does change the game.

What's the proposed DLC for SSC though?

The $50 tier adds a single mission.
The $100 tier adds another.

Is that for how much you pay, or is that just for the kickstarter or whatever kickstarter-copycat they're using, or what?

The concept is great and having bugs in the alpha is understandable. But $100 to get all rooms and missions? Big no.

No, that's strictly the structure for the indiegogo(kickstarter-esque) scheme. Those are additional pieces of content that he wanted to specially create as reward items, but it's not exactly crippling the game by not having those 2 missions.

I saw this on RPS today, having missed the thread until now.  I was really intrigued by the concept and customization aspects at first.  Then it looked like the whole point of the game was to solve puzzle after puzzle.  Then I got even more put off by the unit photos (is that odd?  I just really don't understand why everything else would be so abstracted, then you just have stock photos for the units...  Hopefully that changes).  What really did it, though, was that there would be a 'story' but that it would be based on Ayn Rand's drivel.

Now it's all cautious optimism.  I won't be touching the alpha--that usually is a bad idea, from my point of view--but I look forward to trying a more complete version at some point.

Many Kickstarer/Kickstarter-Clone things will give you certain payment options and certain rewards, which are essentially polite ways of donating.  You get something, but it's barely anything, and you're really just giving them money.  The "extra mission" may be just another "make a cargo ship".

Yes, let's pick apart the wording of an alpha video game. As if that matters even slightly.

I played the Alpha, and the ship design is fun. It took trawling through most of the forum posts to see that it wasn't necessary to meet the crew requirements as stated. His plans for the single-player campaign are ambitious, and I hope he suceeds because it does look like it has the potential to be a great game. However, I think it will also take years before it's out the door.

Then again, I consider Infinity to be overly ambitious, something that might easily spell it's downfall.
