Some fun with miniatures
« on: August 18, 2012, 12:16:57 pm »

A few days ago I ordered 7 dwarven priests from Reaper Miniatures, and I couldn't help but include a dwarf fortress reference in the special instructions section
here's the invoice that came with them (perhaps over-cautiously edited).

I don't see how this is surprising or weird.

The cynic in me thinks it's sort of surprising that people read those.  Also, in this case it was read by awesome people!!    :D

Neat. It's nice to know that it passed through human hands at some point.

Not true, not everyone here is human. Plus I'd be scared to ever find out what a "regular" Bay watcher was... Terrifying thoughts indeed.

ordered 7 of this guy

A year ago, the friend that introduced me to dwarf fortress passed away  :(...so I got one of these guys and jb-welded it to a rock I put by his headstone.  When I last went to visit, the dwarf had been pried from the rock.  So this time I decided to get backup   :)...seven seemed like a logical number (fortress dwarves after-all)...and since they're all the same, whoever stole the first one will have less incentive to do it again...

Awesome.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

Give them all little adamantine weapons (but not blunt weapons!) and paint the shirts the color corresponding to a weapon lord of that type. Then put all seven on to start a new fortress :)

The only thing depressing about that was the loss of a friend, I see a thanks to everything done in life being done in a meaningful way for those still living to appreciate.

Paint would encourage them to be re-stolen.
