Need to smooth floors before furniture?

(1/2) > >>

rwallace:
Given that you want to smooth the floor in a stone room for aesthetic and morale purposes, do you need to do it before putting in tables, chairs, beds etc? i.e. if the furniture goes in first, will it block access to the bits of floor it's sitting on?

Shzar:
Some furniture blocks movement on that square and thus cannot be smoothed or engraved underneath it. Off the top of my head, statues, windows, and floodgates cannot be smoothed under. Beds, thrones, tables, and most other things can be smoothed underneath.

RedWick:
A good rule of thumb is: If a dwarf can walk over it, they can smooth/engrave it.

Slappy Moose:
Will a rooms value be lessened if it is furnished before engraved, or do floors with objects over them not add to the value?Just curious if I should be engraving everything, and then furnishing.

Derakon:
I remember reading somewhere that statues block access to engraved floors/walls and thus those engravings don't count, but now I don't remember where I read it, so it's entirely possible that I was just hallucinating.
