So I spent several hours wandering the caverns searching for this thing, but now that I've actually found it I've gotten cold feet. The hours I invested have made me particularly attached to my adventurer, so I don't want him to die instantly to demons. While I don't expect him to survive, I want him to at least take a few down with him or maybe even make it down into Hell. Due to my legendary +at least 10 Ambusher skill, I was wondering if it is possible for me to pick up the sword and sneak away without even starting a fight. Here's the rest of my stats and equipment so you can give me insight as to how I will probably fare in the battle:

I'll search the rest of the fortress for creatures to train on, but due to lag, my fed-upness with traveling in the caverns, and the sheer lack of creatures I've found on this level of the caverns (I found only about 6 blood men after two hours of wandering on this level) I am unwilling to leave this place to train and come back.

I suggest that you save now, then boot up your task manager, and when you die, terminate the process rather than end game like normal.

I am not a cheater. There is no glory in savescumming. If I savescummed, this adventurer would mean nothing to me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Pull the sword out, and get some fluffy wamblers. Or better yet, try to get a slab.

Alright I've swept the fortress and found no creatures to train on. I'm going to pull the thing and see what happens. Hopefully stealth will prevail, but if not I will accept my fate and not savescum. Will be posting results along with screenshots.

After pulling the sword the floor opened, but no demons came spilling out (maybe that only happens in Fortress Mode, or maybe that only happens when you breach Hell through an adamantine vein; I don't know). This is the first level of chambers underneath the Fortress. It was totally empty.

Still no demons in level seven, but I did find some blind demon webs. I anticipate pain in my adventurer's near future.
