Fruit trees - do they actually have fruit in them?
« on: July 08, 2014, 01:25:35 am »

So I'm currently having a metric crapton of fun as an elf climbing around in trees in a forest. But I'm getting kinda (very) hungry.
Thing is, I'm not sure if the cherry/plum trees I seem to wander around in have any actual fruit in them for me to pick and eat. I've seen some pinecones but eeeh, those aren't really edible.

Do the fruit trees have their fruit hidden within their canopies or am I starving myself to death trying to look for some?

The release announcement has a mention of trees not being harvestable yet, so I'm guessing you can't. But it also says this will be fixed soonish.

In fortress mode it seems that the things quite literally rain down their contents and cover the ground with them. The valley below my fortress is littered with bayberries, sand pears, cherries, and persimmons and it's all very pretty. I'm quite certain my dwarves would love to be hard at work fermenting them. Perhaps in adventure mode you might be able to pick the fallen delights up, but as it's been stated above I don't think you can harvest them, at least in fortress mode?

Well thing is I haven't seen then in Adventure mode, and I don't play Fortress mode so I can't tell.

They do fall out of the branches? Good to hear.

I've managed to pluck and eat some artichoke hearts in adventure mode, so it is indeed functional in that respect

I pressed grab randomly under a tree in Adventure Mode, and I was able to take Plums (above), so I would say that under a fruit tree in season, food should be easy to pick.

I think tree growths're seasonal, so if you're only playing adventure mode it may take a while for fruit to appear.

Sorry if it's semi-off topic, how do you climb?

I've had autumn arrive at my fortress and the ground under the fruit trees is now covered in fruits. They are in no way collectible though.
