Adventurer Mode Quickstarter clarification

The quickstarter guide states that enemies behind you get a hit bonus.

Which way is behind? And can you get behind an enemy as well?

Blue Dwarf has been happy lately. He did some !!science!! recently. He admired a fine forum post lately. He was enraged by a forum troll recently. He was upset by the delayed release of the new version of Dwarf Fortress lately. He took joy in planning a noble's death recently.

You usually face the direction of your actions. If you walk or attack to the north, an attacker from the south will get a pretty good hit bonus.

Of course you can attack enemies from behind, too, it's just more difficult to determine which way they're facing. The easiest way is to surround them with companions and attack opponents from two sides.
