Dwarf Fortress Bestiary
« on: October 16, 2012, 07:35:56 am »

So. I feel as though this is a thing that should happen: an illustrated guide to the many peoples and creatures of the Armokverse.

One problem with me: There's a lot of stuff I can't draw to save my life. For instance, birds. I hate hate hate *Kefka* HATE drawing feathers.

So, does anybody else feel like this is something that should exist, or am I just babbling stupid ideas again?

Art = Good.
Too bad I couldn't draw anything to save my life.

You might want to put a thread at Creative Projects as well, for the people at the lower board.

It's been tried before. Not enough people were willing to commit so it never really started.

I'm willing to compile a text-only bestiary for this, but no illustrations. I don't do ASCII art. :P

There was one thread (probably more) about Dwarf Fortress geology where almost all the pictures were.... shock horror!  ...photographs of the rocks concerned!

Now, I'm not saying that we won't have some problems with some DF creatures, [cough]Crundles[/cough], but (if not photos) then other illustrations could be gathered for many of each species concerned, even if someone wanted to re-illustrate, ASCIIfy or do something else to them for consistency later.

I like the idea. I'd suggest that anyone be permitted to submit an article on a given creature, with perhaps a tiny peer review by others to ensure it's reasonably accurate. Then you can draw a picture/find a photo of it. :P

It would definitely improve the wiki if someone posted them on the matching pages. I'm all for it, and if I could even draw a straight line or a circle, I'd definitely join in!

This forum is home to thousands and thousands of members from all different walks of life, each with their own unique set of skills and experiences...yet only four of them possess the ability to draw.

I can draw straight lines, slightly curved lines, and penises. If there're any penis monsters you need drawing, I'm your man.

Let's.... not go there.

Some personal reflections might be present. For instance, in my head, any male dragon worth its salt has a mustache worthy of a military commander. I always draw them thus.

For instance, this picture I drew for my grandpa on Father's Day. The picture's a year and a half old, so it may not be my best work.

OK, I've done some things for DF over the years and they're of varying quality but you're free to use them as you wish.

The sea serpent and rhino lizard are delightfully freaky.

I like your plump helmet drawing. Sufficiently succinct, I must say.
