I wish Dwarf Fortress had quotas.

You know. You want to have, at any one time... 50 limestone blocks. And your workshops will automagically set up the order!

Of course, I'd also like being able to say "10 Masterwork iron swords. Melt the non-masterwork swords." And have it done.

It's not -quite- the same thing as jobs manager orders, because those are relative, "I want 30 more doors!" while this is absolute "Build 30 doors and not a single more! When one is used, build another!"

Probably set through the jobs order, though. Standing Quotas, maybe?

You know, they could teach maths like this at school. "There are 105 dwarves in a settlement. A goblin invasion appears and 67 die. Then a migrant wave..."

I think dfhack's workflow command is what you want, at least for the time being until such things are implemented in-game... I currently use it with great success.

For example, the following command ensures that I always have 20 empty bins on hand, and automatically starts producing more every time the count is 5 or more below that:

workflow amount BIN 20 5

It's pretty amazingly useful.  I'm automating all sorts of jobs with it.
