Corneroids
« on: October 24, 2012, 09:14:57 pm »

Found an interesting little game today. It's a blocky, space-based game that lets you build your own ship with mined materials.
Has crafting, actual thrust vs mass mechanics, zero-g, basic enemies, and a ton of stuff to mine  from asteroids.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Turns out that it was also a part of some GameDev competition.

--UPDATE--
Good news, everyone! The developer is continuing to work on Corneroids, and has even released a new version (1.0.5)
Includes some fixes, a better crafting system, and storage boxes! Unfortunately, it is incompatible with older saves.

In addition, the enthusiastic players over at 4chan have been working on modding the game, and have released a few versions for public consumption.

Just unpack and look for the installation files. Once those are done, just use the executable and enjoy!

Try turning Lighting ON and Gamma down to a low setting for better atmosphere. (theyre in ESC>Options)

Whoops, probably should have mentioned that.

default is "C" for inventory. you can drag the stuff into your hotbar. you can edit what keys do what in the menu.
The grey thing is your drill and the blue-ish thing is your pistol. When you find more iron/cobalt, you can upgrade each one with their respective material.

Also, theres an additional item/recipe pack that adds in some stuff.

To use:
-dl both Executable AND Installer.
-extract both to desktop/folder
-run installer. exit game.
-put contents of DarthNox ItemSet .rar into the Binaries folder that the Executable creates
-use Corneroids.exe in the Binaries file to run the game.
-Use the DarthNox ItemSet option when making a new universe

Just change "Cube games" to "Space cube games" and you still have too many.

How does fly ship?

I have an engine (facing the right way), a power block, and a cable block.

I have the same problem that girl in hat, and i also have a console wich i know its required to program them.

Standard console block

1 Crafting table
1 Standard cobalt power block
1 Light iron block

The engines fire but my speed stays at 0.

EDIT: Im guessing i was building into the asteroid and not an independent thing, the cubes had the red arrow pointing towards the asteroid, im going to try again in space.
EDIT2: IT WORKS!!

Alright, if you follow the recipe list page...

Get at least 1 hydrogen engine, made via icy rocks and iron.
Get at least 1 reactor, made with mainly cobalt.
Get a control box, with various items.

Travel some distance away from an asteroid, into open space.  Place the engine.  Place the power box atop it.  Place the control box atop either of them.  Look at the control box and press 'f'.  Look at the engine and click it to turn it red.  Look at the control box and press 'f' again.  Turn red to keybinding 'w'.  Hit escape.  Press 'e'.  When you press 'w' you will now thrust the engine.  Repeat for 6-axis control, armored door control, and weapon fire.

Is anybody else getting a fatal exception after playing for any length of time? It's starting to get annoying now.

There must be 50 of these minecraft blocks in space games by now; They keep popping up like moles in a whack-a-mole game.

Hey, I can't fit through 2x1 'doorways' and whenever I'm near an object, it gives me the option to plant my boots on it. How do I synchronize with an object, so I can, say, go through a door?

I know. this, along with all the Doom-likes are getting annoying.

Anyway, Any game with construction has me interested. Are there any complex systems that can be built? (Eg anything turing-complete, or something like life support systems)
