That does sound quite amusing. Why waste money on traveling to Venice if you can have the exoticism of a gondola right in front of your door?

The East river is now level with the walkways. Holy shit. This is actually happening.

I'd say, "Hope you can swim," but honestly you probably don't want to be swimming through flood water. I mean, even beyond not wanting to be in a situation that could necessitate it.

So, uh. Good luck, find high ground?

Don't worry, It's just the walkways. I'm up hill from there. I'm outside evacuation zone a. Still, it is freaking me out.

Mind you, the actual storm isn't even there yet. My thoughts are with all the folks up that way.

And yet, school is still open tommorrow. My school is in the battery park evacuation zone, on the water.

Pretty sure they just announced public schools will be closed Tuesday in the current press conference. Wouldn't be surprised if all others follow that lead.

First possible victims: crew of a three-master replica of the HMS Bounty.

Because nothing says WTF like deciding to try and sail an actual sail-powered frigate around a giant hurricane.  :-\

Also, 10,000 airline flights cancelled along the East Coast. Flight schedules are pretty much fucked globally as a result.

EDIT: And here's a shot of Boone, NC (where MetalSlimeHunt is). Yeah, not surprised they didn't cancel classes. Though they're calling for a foot of snow overnight...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And now they're starting to talk about the potential threat to the Great Lakes region. Saw one forecast of wave heights of as much as 25ft (~8m) on Lake Michigan.  :o

Dude, now that you've said it, you're bound to croak!

After all the other people who said it before have died first, of course.

Well fuck. Looks like I'm gonna start feeling it at 2 pm today, I will update assuming I don't lose my interwebz. Also, the weather channels doing a live stream on youtube about the hurricane.

It's pretty ominous man, it's not even raining, just all manner of flora going apeshit in the winds. I'm almost tempted to go up to the reservoir and see what
crazy crap is going on.

That sounds like a spectacularly bad idea!  :o
DO IT!

Meh, it wasn't that impressive.

Um. America is really, really big. If you don't want to live in a hurricane zone, you don't really have to. Most folks on the active coasts just tend to think the benefits outweigh the occasional lorry being bounced around like a basketball.

Some of us are also far enough inland and high enough up that even when the coast gets hilari-wrecked by massive winds, rain, and flood, we just kinda' go, "Eh."
