I saw a hydra on that list. Forget dragons, get the hydra!

I'm wondering what the chances are, that if i capture a dragon in one fort, if i retire it, use an adventurer to transport it in a cage to enough area with another dragon, i can then keep both dragons in one fort. Then retire .... continue onward till i have a massive army of megabeasts :P

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

that would be a slow walk for your adventurer.

Clearly, you'd have to mod the raws so it's temporarily easier to carry the cages. Either super strength the adventurer (being a Bronze Colossus is a good start) or make the dragon lightweight.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

if you are going to mod things in anyway like that you might as well just mod in the dragons as pets.

No reason to half-measure it.

indeed. If you're editing the raws just make it easier to have a dragon, not waste time on this.

Still, a dwarf can go pretty strong as a demi god. Yes it could take a while but my map is a 35x35 i believe, may even be 17x17. With enough training in speed & strength, there's a good chance i could still move at ~500 speed.
Given that there are 20 megabeasts, i could at least collect about 5 without too much hassle i believe. Unless i'm seriously underestimating the weight of a dragon (likely)
If that's the case, i could set up a LOT of forts all the way from one megabeast to the next. Use a minecart or something to transport across an 8x8 or so fort.

probably easier and just as funny if not funnier, especially with the adventurer hydra community game going on.
Might have a go actually, my current fort is a bit... boring.

As i think you can make the hydra move by setting it in a pen/pasture somewhere else. Animals generally move there on their own volition. Keep him inside behind a locked door, right next to my entrance wait for goblins to arrive. Unlock door to unleash hydra at melee range.

Sod it, i'll do it :P
Might give some others some ideas of how to catch dragons/megabeasts in general when embarked with one. Hopefully without dying lol.

edit: completed with no casualties whatsoever. Seems Mr Hydra likes sitting in his cave until someone wanders next to him trying to place a cage trap in his face. Couldn't even chase down my mechanic who isn't even agile :P

Me being cautious:

I then notice he doesn't care much:

I then try and place a trap where the yellow x is, hydra chases my mechanic (hence the suspended cage trap) and runs into the other cage trap:

Because i embarked on his lair, it's considered that he is the resident and i'm just some rampaging lunatics i think:

Sadly this won't work precisely like this for dragons. If i was going to catch a dragon i'd probably use magma safe material, i don't think it will help much, but it might. I.e obsidian mechanisms with nickel cages. Place one at the exit of the cave, the next a little further in if there's room. Then use a miner to dig pretty close to the dragon, if that doesn't make him move, place traps where you've dug, and then dig the last one and see if you get a chase. The more bends the less likely the fire will follow? possibly?
So for embarking, bring along ~4 nickel cages and 4 pieces of obsidian.

Obsidian isn't dragonfire-safe. Use metal mechanisms (e.g., copper,) so they won't boil away.

Step 1: have cages made, and idling dwarves.
Step 2: dfhack
step 3: fastdwarf 1 1
Step 4:  rb_eval df.gametype = :DWARF_ARENA
Step 5: k-c-dragons
Step 6: rb_eval df.gametype = :DWARF_MAIN
Step 7: v-hover over a dragon- rb_eval df.unit_find.civ_id = df.ui.civ_id
Step 8: train them with your best animal trainer.
Done.

NEVER HAVE IT UNPAUSED UNTIL STEP 8, OR ELSE YOUR FORT WILL GO RAMPANT AND INTO A SIMULTANEOUS, BLOODY TANTRUM SPIRAL.

This intrigues me. Does this really work? When I try to do this, the create creatures screen is completely empty.
