In the middle of the other towers among a castle, Miranda’s Needle stood tallest, and most unstable. The Prince, the King, would not have approved the Queen Regent to be here in this cursed place, but here she is, staring at the people down below, as small as ants. The chill wind cut through her bones like blades, and she shivered. In her hand she held a piece of square-cut cloth. The sigil of Minya on it, a simple silver water drop. The Queen held it up like an offering, and the wind blew it away from her hand. She went back down carefully, not wanting to trip and hurt herself in the presence of the witch Miranda.

The cloth floated with the wind, but still its weight pulled it down, until a raven came by and snatched it.
You are no common raven of course. In some situation, such as this, matters are too important to use your servants.
But you are not stupid enough to transform into a bird, obviously. The possessed raven serves as your body, but far behind the walls in your stronghold you are safe, and even if worst come to worst, you would be still alive even if the crow dies.

Not that losing the cloth that way would be a good thing, of course. You will still have to find a way to avoid the other raven following you, probably thinking that you don’t see it. You have no idea whether the King is on to you, but you’re not sticking to find out. The Queen has as much power as him, and she’ll take care of herself.

You might have to go down into the forest and try to shrug the raven off.

With your Sigil inscribed on it, you are able to manipulate the cloth, even though you are very far from it. It rolled itself, and went down your throat. You swallowed vigorously and it was safely deposited inside the raven. Adjusting your wings to stall, you slowed down as the other crow slowed as well and turned to you. It uttered a croak as it lunged for you. You rotated, and thrusting your claw forwards you kick the raven in the beak. It retreated, confused. You did not give it chance, however. So you dived to it and pecked one of its wings. It spiraled downwards into the trees. It won't bother you any more.

While it would no doubt be safer for you to go south and out of Alberal, it is more than likely that if the Queen was caught the Prince would sic more birds on you, and a mere raven can’t outrace falcons.

But north, you are flying above the Winglion Forest, and while it is more than unlikely that the “namesake” of the forest would notice a crow, you won’t stand a chance if they do.

You have already shrugged off your pursuer, so perhaps you could circle back south, it would also be faster that way since your destination lies southern, and to go further is just to confuse your enemies.

You almost forgot that it is night. Confident that you have shrugged off your pursuer, and that the King won’t be finding you again, you turn back the way you came. Out of the Winglion Forest, past the abandoned castle where the Queen handed you the cloth, entering and passing the massive city of Winterhaven, and towards your meeting point among the blood-red plains which you can’t remember the name of.  Finally you found the cottage you were looking for, and you swooped down.

Another small piece of cloth was nailed on the door, and as you got near it the door swung open. The man in it who was cooking was startled, and then turned towards you. “So you have come.” The exiled brother of the late King greeted you, “Nys of Minya”. You flew onto the table, and left the body of the raven and awoke in a bed guarded by your men. You ordered them to go fetch you something to eat.

After eating, you went back to bed again, and this time woke up in the form of a swift. You stand in the man’s shoulder, and on the table your past body lie dead, its stomach cut open. Glued with permanent glue on your claw is the cloth.

You have no idea how the man managed to capture a swift, but it will be incredibly useful for you to make the long journey back to Minya. However, you feel a little bit tired, probably more in your mind than in the bird.

Who are You?

Your real name is Chima, and you weren't born in the nobility. You were chosen for some reason you don't know by the Priest who was the second-in-command when the earlier Leader, called the Nys, died of old age. Your life is far from normal, but that's a story for another time. After being trained on how to suppress knowledge and memories at will, you drank from the artifact potion, the Tear of Nir, you had the knowledge of all the past Nys, which if you don't selectively use them you would have had an identity crisis and go mad. Though you still underwent some identity change and pretty much turned into a different person.

In short, you're the Nys, the Demi-god who governs Minya.
Despite the fact that your body is only 12 years old, your enemies and allies are still wary of you and your ploys.

What is going on?

The Queen Regent of Alberal believe that the only way the kingdom can survive the oncoming Great War (again, long story) would be to join the Pavenian Empire (the sovereign that Minya is under the power of). Because Alberal is in a war against Pavene, it is near impossible for someone of a position as her to contact them, so Minya, or more specifically your inner circle are the one that is communicating with her. You even had to be subtle while dealing with Pavene as Alberal spies are everywhere there. The Queen's end of bargain is that the Empire allow Alberal to govern itself. You are pretty sure she have insurances to prevent double-crossing.

Politics aside, the Queen Regent had contacted you earlier that she had a matter of high importance that may as well end the war. You have no idea what this is, but you follow her plan just the same. In this piece of thumb-sized square cloth a message is magically sealed inside. She had written on them with your blood (another long story), allowing you to sense it and take it. You will have to use this crow to deliver it back to you. There are several variables here that will need more context, but what you are planning to do now is meet up with your agent and change your vessel to a faster bird, which would have been more conspicuous if you didn't use the raven.

What is Minya?

The Theocracy of Minya was in the past a powerful empire. In a series of wars and rebellion it had now been whittled to a small island near Pavene (the kingdom). Most of the island is inhospitable so Minya had to depend on Pavene for more food in exchange with their magical talent granted by being the land nearest to the Magic Rift without being in lethal range.

What is Alberal?

Alberal is the kingdom spearheading the rebellion against the Pavenian Empire. While the Empire cannot directly attack Alberal yet due to it being inland and surrounded by many other kingdoms, the war seems to be going bad for it. Everyone had expected peace now, but then the former king died of sickness, and the Prince, now the King, continued the war again.

What are winglions?

Winglions are insect creatures evolved from an extinct species of fungi capable of breeding insectoid version of other life forms. Apart from their male hunters that look like lions with fly wings the rest of them look like giant maggots. They are capable of flight because they have insect wings and their innards are filled with hydrogen. Their have a peculiar way of breeding, but that is pretty unrelated to the subject.

What is the Pavenian Empire?

You glanced at the door again, feeling the red blood seal on the other side. You made the whistling sound that swifts make unconsconsciously, and hopped back onto your cage. "Ah. Good night then." the exile said as he went back to his desk, where a humongous tome rest. The swift awakes and protested again for freedom.

You awake in midday at Varshadji, Minya. You have forgotten to remember the time offset, it seemed. No matter. You shook your bell to summon your page, and ordered him to fetch you a meal as you washed in your pool and change to a new robe.

Your second-in-command is tending to the paperwork and management right now. It's one of those time where your ability to forget rage out of control. Maybe you could explore the palace.
