I have a murder mystery on my hands, and it seems unsolvable.
« on: December 12, 2012, 06:27:24 am »

Okay, recently, I got a notice that my legendary miner goblin (Modded Game) went missing. Sending my militia through the fort to find the corpse, I found something weird.

No corpse, but placed next to the magma garbage dump were a piled of his damaged clothes, and a pick. The clothes were in varying stages of deterioration, and they weren't scattered around, they were piled up, right next to the dump.

I've never had any magma creatures in or around my fort.

And the miner was one of the happiest people in my fort.

And I haven't found a corpse, so it can't be a vampire, unless vampires have started dumping corpses into magma. And given the position of the clothes, it's unlikely I'll find one.

This is stumping my brain, and I can't think of any possible solution for this mystery. And ideas?

Might have something to do with your magma dump: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=120005.0

He got set on fire, bled to death due to fat melting, and the corpse caught on fire and burned away to nothing. Meanwhile, the clothing suffered some wear due to exposure to the heat.

Causes of ignition: magma mist from falling objects? fire from magma creature?

I had a problem like this, once, when I thoguht it'd be a GREAT idea to throw corpses down a garbage chute into the magma sea right next to the stairwell leading to the magma forges. Several smiths were set ablaze when the magma splashed out onto them as items were dumped in.
