Does retiring reset civ relations?

After playing around with necromancy, vampires and other whatnot my adventurer became an outlaw (can't figure what went wrong :3 ) in the eyes of a human civ. I retired, built a fortress and then continued my adventures, and everyone was friendly again. A feature or a bug?

its a feature IMO
doing this in an elven civ gives you in particular [AT_PEACE_WITH_WILDLIFE]
