You walk up to the pedestal and get on you hind legs to look in. You see a small scroll, tied with an important looking silver ribbon.

Wait, all we know about the room is that there's a sphere. Look around. Is there a door or another hole? Or is this just a room with one exit, that exit being the hole?

It's a sphere on a pedestal. And there's only one exit, the one you came in. It's otherwise pretty boring.

It's about a foot in diameter, hollow, made of crystal glass, covers the top of the pedestal, and glows slightly. You gently toss the toy at it, and it bounces off with a squeak.

That's true for everything. We could have stepped on a pit trap, with spikes, covered in lethal poison on the way in.
